Come to Luoyang
The crafts on this site are made in Luoyang, in Henan Province — a city that has been a capital, a workshop town and a crossing on the Yellow River for most of its recorded history. If you are planning a sourcing trip to China, this page is about what there is to see here.

What There Is to See
The Excavation Sites
Luoyang sits on top of its own history. The Erlitou site and the Yanshi Shang city are open to visitors, and both are places where the bronze and ceramic traditions on this site were already being worked out three thousand years ago.
Longmen and the White Horse Temple
The Longmen Grottoes and the White Horse Temple are the two places most visitors come for — one carved into a river cliff over four centuries, the other recorded as the first Buddhist temple in China.
The Museums
The city museums hold the material this trade is built on: Tang Sancai figures, Han and Tang bronze, and the ceramic sequence in between. Seeing the originals is the fastest way to understand what a reproduction is measured against.
Peony Season
Luoyang is known for its tree peonies, and the city fills up in April when they flower. If you are timing a trip and want to see the city at its busiest, that is the month.

Planning a Trip
Luoyang has its own airport and is on the high-speed rail line from Beijing, Xi'an and Zhengzhou, so it is easy to add to a longer sourcing trip.
If you are coming to China and would like to talk through a specification in person, write to us with your dates and what you are looking for. Spring is the busiest season here, so plan accommodation early.
