Close view of the taotie band at the waist of the vessel
  • Cast, not pressed

The vessel is cast, so the flanges and the taotie band carry the depth the original has. Nothing here is stamped from sheet.

  • Patinated, not painted

The surface is patinated to the character of excavated bronze — green-grey, uneven, with the recesses darker than the raised work.

  • After a known original

The form follows the He Zun: flared mouth, four vertical flanges, taotie band at the waist, on a ring foot.

  • Gilding on request

Gilding is available on request where a brighter surface is wanted for a display or a gift programme.

Craft & Materials

Material and casting

The vessel is cast in bronze and finished by hand. Casting is what gives the flanges and the taotie band their depth; the raised work stands clear of the ground rather than sitting on top of it.

Surface and patina

The surface is patinated to the character of excavated pieces — green-grey, with the recesses reading darker than the raised work. Patina varies from piece to piece; a photograph shows the character, not a flat colour reference.

Form and reference

We work from excavated references. Where a piece survives only in fragments, the reconstruction is stated on the quotation so you know what is documented and what has been completed by us.

Procurement FAQ

Do you sell to individuals?

We supply to businesses, but there is no minimum on a first sample order. Write to us with what you need.

Can I order a sample first?

Yes. A sample is made and approved before the production run.

Is this an excavated piece?

No. Everything is made now, by hand, after historical forms. Nothing on this site is an original.

Can you match a colour or a form?

Yes — send a photograph, a drawing or a reference piece and we will quote it.

What is the minimum order?

It depends on the line, the form and the finish. It is stated on your quotation.

How do you pack ceramics for export?

Export cartons with the padding and separation the material needs. Packing details are confirmed on the order.
